This year, UNESCO recognized Buenos Aires as World Book Capital 2011, and to commemorate the event, Marta Minujín decided to give shape to a Tower of Babel of Books in Plaza San Martínin Bueons Aires. A clear reference to The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges.
We go up to the tower in groups of 15 people at a time, from 10 am to 10 pm, and the visit is accompanied by a background sound that repeats the word book in different languages . The entry is free.
It is an ephemeral installation, as it will be dismantled this weekend, but are not ephemeral books, there are over 30,000 books from over 54 countries. The intention of the government authorities is to form the first multilingual library in the world.
