Mini guide to Fuerteventura | The island of the wind

Fuerteventura is the closest Canary Island to the African coast with an area of 1,660 km. The island is arid and sparsely populated, just think that the first hotel was built in 1965 followed by the construction of the airport. The sea is crystal clear, the particular vegetation and desert color the small town of Orange. All this combined with its beautiful beaches and natural parks make it the most beautiful island of the archipelago.

The special climate all through the year has made these beaches a paradise for all those who practice water sports such as surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding. Very famous is the island of Lobos and the Sotavento beach which hosts the Windsurfing World Championship. There are 25 centers that receive Surf Spot fans of the genre from around the world. Even the seabed creates a strong attraction for all diving enthusiasts. Among the most popular resorts and beaches of Fuerteventura I cannot help but mention some very particular.

– El Cotillo, a tourist resort in the north of the island with a long white sand beach dedicated to surfers and romantics for unforgettable sunsets.
– Dunes of Corralejo, north of the island with white sand dunes, a show very striking in the natural park of Corralejo.
– Sotavento, perhaps one of the most unique beaches characterized by the changing tides covering and discover acres of the beach forming lagoons where you can walk in 40 cm of water. Many areas of this beach which stretches for 5km are not visited making them ideal for those who practice nudism.
– Barlovento, a 10km long beach isolated from civilization. Reached after about 15km of dirt road, is a truly unspoilt and wild beach often frequented by nudists as the surrounding area is not urbanized.
– Garcey, one of the dark beaches of the island in the bay which is the wreck of a ship.
– Morro Jable is a natural and protected.
– Jandia, the main tourist resort with a beach whose length is considered one of the best in the world.
– Isla de los Lobos, a small island that lies between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote reachable within minutes by ferry from natural landscapes and is especially attractive.
– Costa Calma, as the name implies is a place characterized by calm waters and golden beaches stretching over 2km and has picnic areas with tables and chairs. It has one of the most famous views of the proximity to the city center. Costa Calma is located to the south of Fuerteventura.
