I was in Venice 4 times but before the last weekend I had never been to Murano or Burano. I was not expecting anything but I knew the name and fame of these two Venetian islands. So I got the ticket to get to Murano and Burano. The first was a disappointment, the second a pleasant surprise and a show! Murano is the island of glass. Just arrived there by boat and a number of gentlemen had routed to a factory, they said “speak here lords free demonstration of glass” and all of us, like lemmings we went. What would you do? free demonstration of glass on the island of glass and not go? Go!
After the demonstration of 4 dry minutes we were directed to the store, of course. We have not bought anything and we headed towards the center of Murano. There were many shops selling Murano glass, bridges, water and nothing else. A disappointment. We then went to Burano hoping that this would offer us something more. Well, Burano conquered me.
It must have been the colored houses, the inhabitants of the island all smiling and hospitable on a sunny day. The fact is that Burano is beautiful, cared for and kept with plenty of restaurants and taverns (which Murano lacked). My advice is to only visit the island of Burano in half a day but ticket prices are high (€ 7 one way and € 18 per day – 12 hours) so if you have to choose, definitely pick Burano!
