Phillip Island is known around the world for its motor racing circuit which annually hosts some of the biggest races in the world. Few know it instead for the natural paradise that actually represents it and the variety of animal species it houses. This small island connected to the mainland by a bridge that connects it with the town of San Remo, is the ideal place for nature lovers and trekkers for spotting koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, penguins and seals.
Reaching the island is very easy. You can then decide to rent a camper van or a car or to rely on one of the many local tour operators that organize day trips. Generally relying packages all inclusive is not part of my “philosophy” of travel but in the absence of equity, I could not do otherwise.
In fact, the experience was very positive. The tour operator Wild Life Tours Australia with only $ 109 allows you to spend a pleasant day exploring one of the most interesting natural areas of the state of Victoria . The package includes: visit to the Koala Conservation Centre where you can see koalas, visit to the local historical chocolate factory Penny’s, wine and cheese tasting at the Phillip Island Vineyards and Wineries in a beautiful wooden cottage nestled in the rolling countryside of Australia, a visit to the Nature Center of Nobbies, overlooking the ocean and ends the day with the famous Penguin Parade, that is the time when the penguins returning to their burrows according to a biological clock. It’s really amazing (every night at 21 precisely) after a long day of hunting in the ocean. Inside the park you can also spot wallabies, kangaroos, flying foxes and with a little luck some Tasmanian Devil.
A very low cost and enjoyable way to discover a part of the wonderful Australian nature with primordial landscapes, breathtaking and with the excitement of finally being able to spot some of the strangest animals in the world.
