Fall is a beautiful time to visit the region of Bierzo in León, as I did last year when I went to discover the amazing landscape of Las medulla. But also at this time there is another good reason to make a trip to this region, the gastronomic events held until 9 December where you can taste the products of the area and its most famous dishes. The Gastronomic of Bierzo 2013 involves 34 restaurants in the region, nine more than in last year’s edition.
During this time, participating restaurants offer on the occasion of the conference varied menu with prices between 20 and 30 euros with dishes made with quality food products registered at Bierzo as russet, botillo del Bierzo, the roasted peppers, pears or chestnuts and more. But in addition to these products, menus incorporate other food in the area such as jerky, goat cheese, cherries, mushrooms, vegetables and more. As an example of a menu, I commented that the restaurant offers rural Villa Mencia Corullón, where last year I was able to taste its cuisine these days, especially made by my friend Mariano. On this occasion, among the first courses you can choose one fajita Corullón botillo about kale, peppers berciano a ratatouille with poached egg, or a jerky toast with goat cheese and caramelized onions.
For the second San Fiz has marinated trout, pork tenderloin with baked Mencia sauce, puree and wild mushrooms pomfret, white beans with quail wasteland pints, or pork trotters with old straw potatoes. For dessert you can taste the products of Bierzo. That is the case of stuffed pancakes conference pear compote and custard or candied chestnuts. If you prefer, you can have a fresh fruit skewer with mango sauce or Grandma pie. All washed down with white wine and red Mencia godello do El Bierzo.
