Great Britain has planned a series of activities, events and conferences for 2019 in a varied selection of places and destinations, making it a great chance to visit them. Film premieres, cultural programs, exhibitions and business conferences.
There are all sorts of evens in the United Kingdom this year which beckon travellers to visit. What will you do?
Wales – Year of Discovery
Wales – Year of Discovery 2019 continues with the dynamics of the three previous thematic destinations (Year of the Sea, Year of Legends and Year of Adventure), emphasizing the energy and vitality of Wales with many events and activities. The Discovery Year of 2019 will encourage visitors to discover not only the region of Wales, but themselves through a fascinating journey full of attractions, adventures and experiences. The Wales Way will remain a key element in 2019. Inaugurated at the end of 2018, The Wales Way is a combination of three panoramic tourist routes that cross the most glorious landscapes of the region, showing the fascinating history of Wales, its coasts and attractions. These routes will help Wales to position itself as a destination for travellers looking for adventures, who wish to explore places outside the tourist circuits along The North Wales Way, The Cambrian Way and The Coastal Way throughout the year.
London Borough of Culture – Waltham Forest
Inspired by the programs of European Cities of Culture, London Borough of Culture is a new and important initiative launched by the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, in 2018, which rewards the culture in the neighbourhoods. The first borough to win this award for 2019 is Waltham Forest. The idea is to bring culture to the heart of each community, being a fantastic opportunity to discover the diversity and personality of the different areas of London. Local musician Talvin Singh, winner of the prestigious Mercury Award for best British album of the year, will headline a stellar line-up of artists who will collaborate, uniquely, with the young people of Waltham Forest, in what promises to be a great opening event, Welcome to the Forest.
One Voice Conference
One Voice Conference is most likely the biggest Voice Over Event in the world, where the main voice over companies of the industry such as voquent.com participate to showcase their work, share stories and professional experiences and network. This year it will take place from the 9th to the 12th of May in none other than the capital, London. Tickets are already available.
Manchester International Festival Returns
Manchester International Festival (MIF) is the first international festival of original and unpublished works of art and special events, as well as the largest event on the Manchester cultural calendar. The festival is held every two years – the next edition will take place between July 4 and 21, 2019 in different centres of the city – and will be the last before it is permanently transferred to the new flagship cultural enclave of the north of England, The Factory. On the other hand, St John is the name of the master plan whose objective is to create a new neighbourhood that brings together business, culture and habitability in the city, located where the old headquarters of Granada Studios were. With a mix of residential homes, hotels, offices, small streets and lively squares, the St John district will preserve many of the original buildings, such as the iconic Bonded Warehouse, but also new buildings such as Factory Manchester.
New Museum Exhibitions
In London, Tate Britain has announced the largest exhibition on the work of Vincent van Gogh in the United Kingdom for almost a decade, as well as the first exhibition on Van Gogh of the Tate since 1947 while the National Portrait Gallery will host the first major exhibition of miniature portraits of the Tudor and Jacobin eras in the United Kingdom for more than 35 years, Elizabethan Treasures: Miniatures by Hilliard and Oliver. The opening of the new galleries of medicine in the Science Museum is planned for 2019, and promises to be one of the most important collections of medicine in the world, while The Geffrye has embarked on an important transformation plan, renovating the Geffrye, to make the museum more accessible and improve the experience of visitors, whose completion is planned for 2019. The Cartoon Museum will open new headquarters in central London, taking the “imagination of the world of cartoons to the physical plane.”
