The Wave is an amazing rock formation in the border states of Arizona and Utah, USA. It is a particularly popular destination for those who love hiking and photography, as well as colorful wavy shapes formed by the rocks offer a unique spectacle. The Wave is made of sandstone, sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand, and aged about 190 million years.
According to scientists who study the phenomenon, the old dunes have been converted into hard rock by compression during the centuries. Erosion by wind and rain has created the spectacular landscape which appears now. The texture of the rock is quite soft and fragile and everyone needs to walk carefully so the small ridges won’t break.
